  • 2018-03-22

We are pleased to announce Gloria González-López as a Plenary Speaker at this year's International Conference on Diversity in Organizations, Communities & Nations.

Dr. Gloria González-López is Professor of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, where she has worked since 2002. She has conducted research on sexuality and gender with Mexican immigrants, and more recently, she has been studying incest and sexual violence in Mexican families. She is also a couple and family therapist by training and she has worked with Latina immigrant women with histories of sexual violence, and as a consultant for professionals working in sexual violence prevention and treatment programs at grassroots organizations and academic institutions in Mexico. She is the author of two books, Family Secrets: Stories of Incest and Sexual Violence in Mexico (NYU Press 2015) and Erotic Journeys: Mexican Immigrants and Their Sex Lives (UC Press), and is the co-editor of an anthology Bridging: How Gloria Anzaldúa’s Life and Work Transformed Our Own

Gloria González-López conducts research, publishes, and teaches in the areas of gender, sexuality, sexual violence, and social inequality because all of them intertwine in intricate ways and may result in complex and sophisticated expressions of social injustice and human suffering, especially in the lives of girls, boys, women, and other groups at risk. She is also intellectually curious and deeply moved by the resilience of the human spirit. She teaches on these issues because she considers the classroom to be a revolutionary space where learning for social justice and change can take place in creative and inspirational ways. And, most importantly, Gloria González-López considers it an honor to teach on these issues because learning is a non-stop journey as an educator and a human being — she learns a lot from all her students each semester.
