Simeon Davies Joins the Sport & Society Advisory Board

Simeon Davies is presently Head of the Sport Management Department at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, South Africa and has also occupied the post of Acting Head of School Sport, Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management. Prof Davies has extensive experience in the field of sports and exercise science, as well ergonomics/human factors. He is active in his professional areas of expertise, which include being a member of the Executive Council for the Ergonomics Society of South Africa, and is a registered member with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. Prof. Davies is particularly interested in research concerning sports/exercise science in applied situations, along with ergonomics/human factors, as well as ethical issues in research.

Prof Davies has fifty-nine publications/posters in peer-reviewed journals and/or peer reviewed conference proceedings’ along with eighty-nine presentations at academic conferences and workshops at numerous national and international conferences. He has also supervised/examined twenty-one Masters and seven Doctoral theses. His research work has been recognized by the NRF with a C3 rating and he acts as a reviewer for seven peer journals, as well as being a member of an editorial board for the Journal Performance Enhancement and Health.

He was the chairperson of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences Ethics Committee for 10 years and is presently the vice-chairperson of the Senate Ethics Committee at CPUT.

Prof Davies is an invited Academic Advisor for Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA), and is also a Special Task Team member for the development and introduction of the Sport Coaching Degree with the Council of Higher Education (CHE) South Africa.

His recent research work has been investigating the effects of rooibos on physical performance, and he recently led a research expedition to Aconcagua (6962 m) in Argentina to investigate the prophylactic benefits of rooibos supplementation for sojourners at the high altitude, as well rooibos during exercise.

He played volleyball at International level representing England in two European Championships (1979 and 1983) and Great Britain in the World Student Games (1983).
